The beginning of the end?
I think today marks the beginning of the end of my career with Aberdeen City Council. They (the gaffers) have started pulling me up on jobs. My time sheets have been questioned as well. Even though I have been more than covering my time using the proper codes in the book for the work done they still question me about it.
I can feel a work to rule coming on, if they want aditional work requests they can get them, for everything not included on the original ticket, even if it’s a stopcock while fitting a cistern.
Anyhow when I got home today I kick started my LGV training, booking myself in for the medical in Glasgow of all places next week, I’ve also filled out my D2 ready to go when I get done with the medical. I can’t wait to be shot of this stupid job.
On a brighter note I’m still a plumber and still live in the grey toon, so anecdotes should still be forthcoming, although almost certainly the houses will be less stinky.

That’s about the fare for all municipal work. More concern about the administration of it than any other factor. My father worked on the city crew for twenty years under incompetents and slackers. He did come away with funny stories when he went in business with his sons, retiring early. Such as a time he coated the City Hall roof with a special paint from dawn to clock-in (to avoid the heat of summer). Then asked the foreman, “Can I go home when I’m finished with the roof?” “Sure!”, was the answer. Then he said, “Okay, bye.” I gather he would have gone into business himself earlier if it weren’t for the attractive insurance and benefits while raising so many children.

Absolutely right. The benefits, i.e sick pay and a good pension are attractive when you have a family. I’m not going to leave the place before I have somethign lined up, because I know I have a good number here.
Just when they start questioning your jobsheets you know they are just looking for an excuse to be a pain.
Thanks for your comments.
