Absolutely right. The benefits, i.e sick pay and a good pension are attractive when you have a family. I'm not going to leave the place before I have somethign lined up, because I know I have a good number here.

Just when they start questioning your jobsheets you know they are just looking for an excuse to be a pain.

Thanks for your comments.

Billy

That's about the fare for all municipal work. More concern about the administration of it than any other factor. My father worked on the city crew for twenty years under incompetents and slackers. He did come away with funny stories when he went in business with his sons, retiring early. Such as a time he coated the City Hall roof with a special paint from dawn to clock-in (to avoid the heat of summer). Then asked the foreman, "Can I go home when I'm finished with the roof?" "Sure!", was the answer. Then he said, "Okay, bye." I gather he would have gone into business himself earlier if it weren't for the attractive insurance and benefits while raising so many children.
